Industrial Fan Target Diligence Case Study

The Client

A business line leader within an industrial conglomerate was evaluating a potential acquisition and sought an objective, market-based view of the target. Leadership wanted the addressable market for the target's product portfolio sized and forecast in U.S. data center and semiconductor markets, along with a clear read on how strongly the target was positioned in each.

The challenge

Evaluating an acquisition depends on understanding both the size of the opportunity and the strength of the target's position within it.

The client needed a high-confidence view of the total and serviceable market in two distinct end markets, plus an independent read on how customers viewed the target relative to competitors. The findings would also shape how the client thought about deal valuation and where the target could complement its own business.

The solution

BCE interviewed approximately 40 customers and channel partners across the data center and semiconductor markets and combined their input with a thorough review of secondary sources to develop a high-confidence forecast of the addressable opportunity.

Customer feedback on the target's performance versus competitors was collected and used to assess its current market position in each sector.

The results

BCE found that the target held a substantially stronger position in the less attractive segment, pointing to strong potential synergies given the client's access to the more attractive customer base.

Based on these findings, BCE recommended moving forward with discussions and updating the client's understanding of the deal valuation.
